What is More Than Stars Recruiting?

More Than Stars Recruiting helps high school football players and their families understand, organize, and manage the college recruiting process. Our resources focus on school targeting, coach communication, film, recruiting relationships, visits, and the practical next steps families need to make informed decisions.

The problem

Recruiting can feel like everyone else knows something you don't.

One coach says to come to camp. Another follows your son on X. Someone tells you to email every school. Someone else says to wait until the film is better. Meanwhile, you are trying to figure out which schools make sense, whether the interest is real, and what your family should actually be doing next.

The hardest part is often not a lack of information. It is knowing what matters, when it matters, and how all the pieces fit together.

Which schools should we target?
Are coaches actually interested?
When should my son reach out?
What should he say?
Is his film doing its job?
Which camps and visits are worth our time?
What should we be doing right now?
How do we keep track of everything?
Are we behind?

The answer isn't more random recruiting advice. It's having a system.

The philosophy

Recruiting is about more than stars.

Talent matters. But recruiting is not determined by one ranking, one camp, one post, or one conversation. The process also depends on fit, exposure, communication, relationships, organization, and timing.

More Than Stars helps families understand those pieces and manage them together, so decisions are driven by a plan instead of by every new message, camp invitation, social post, or piece of advice that comes along.

Fit

Finding schools that make sense for the player and the person.

Exposure

Helping the right coaches find the information they need.

Communication

Reaching out clearly, appropriately, and with a purpose.

Relationships

Understanding that recruiting develops through repeated interactions and actions.

Organization

Keeping schools, conversations, visits, film, and next steps in one system.

Timing

Knowing that the right action depends on the player's stage and the coach's level of interest.

The roadmap

Your football recruiting roadmap

There is no single recruiting path that every athlete follows. But families can make the process much more manageable when they know the major jobs that need to get done.

01
Know the Player

Start with the athlete you are today — academically, athletically, positionally, and personally. Recruiting decisions work better when they are based on the current player, not only on hoped-for future development.

02
Build the Right School List

Identify schools that make sense based on football level, academics, geography, college preferences, roster opportunity, and overall fit. The goal is not simply to make the list longer. It is to make it more useful.

03
Make Evaluation Easier

Create strong film, organize key recruiting information, and make it easy for coaches to understand who the player is and whether they want to evaluate further.

04
Build Relationships

Communicate with coaches, follow up appropriately, learn what their actions mean, and let the relationship develop instead of treating every contact like a one-time pitch.

05
Manage the Process

Track schools, conversations, coach interest, camps, visits, offers, next steps, and changing priorities so opportunities do not get lost in texts, DMs, notes, and memory.

Why we exist

Why More Than Stars

Families do not need another person telling them to 'get exposure' or 'reach out to coaches.' They need to understand how the process works and what to do with the information they are getting.

More Than Stars was created to give families practical structure: a way to think through recruiting decisions, organize the process, communicate more intentionally, and help the athlete take an active role in his own recruiting.

From our family

Our experience with football recruiting showed us how easy it is for families to stay busy while still feeling unsure about what actually matters. We wish we had understood earlier that recruiting is not about doing more of everything, but about knowing where your athlete is in the process and focusing on the right opportunities and actions. That experience led us to create More Than Stars to give families the clarity, structure, and practical guidance we were looking for. Most of all, we want families to avoid reacting to every camp, coach follow, or piece of advice as if it carries the same weight.
