About More Than Stars

Why we started More Than Stars

No one gives recruiting families a clear process, so we built one.

You hear
  • Get your film out.
  • Go to camps.
  • DM coaches.
  • Build relationships.
  • Keep updating your profile.

All of those things matter. But it’s hard to understand how the pieces fit together, which actions matter at which stage, or how to tell whether or not what they are doing is actually moving the process forward.

That gap is why we created More Than Stars.

Our mission

Helping families understand the recruiting process

Our goal is not to manufacture recruiting interest or promise outcomes that no one can control.

It is to help athletes and families understand the recruiting process, identify the right opportunities, present the player clearly, communicate appropriately, organize the moving pieces, and make better decisions as the process develops.

We believe recruiting works better when the athlete understands his own process and takes an active role in it — with the family providing support, perspective, and organization rather than trying to manage every interaction for him. See how recruiting works →

What we don’t promise

More Than Stars provides guidance and tools to support better decisions. We do not control coach interest, offers, scholarships, or admissions decisions.

The More Than Stars approach

Your Ranking Doesn’t Define Your Opportunity

The name More Than Stars reflects a simple idea: recruiting cannot be reduced to rankings and labels.

Talent is important. But so are fit, exposure, communication, relationships, organization, timing, academics, and the athlete’s ability to find a college environment where he can succeed.

  • Fit
  • Exposure
  • Communication
  • Relationships
  • Organization
  • Timing
  • Academics

Our resources are built to help families see the whole process instead of chasing isolated signals — one camp invite, one follow, one ranking update, one coach message, or one offer.

Our story

We’ve Been Through the Recruiting Process Too

More Than Stars Recruiting grew out of our own family’s experience navigating the college football recruiting process with our son. Like many parents, we quickly realized how confusing the process can be, trying to understand what coaches were really looking for, which opportunities were worth pursuing, what our athlete should be doing next, and whether we were making the right decisions along the way. We learned a lot through experience, but we often wished we had a clearer roadmap and practical guidance from people who understood what the process actually feels like for a family going through it.

That experience inspired us to create More Than Stars Recruiting for families whose athletes may not be the highly ranked recruits getting constant attention, but who still have the talent, work ethic, and desire to play at the next level. Our goal is to make recruiting easier to understand and navigate by giving families practical tools, honest information, and a clearer plan for moving forward.

Because recruiting isn’t just about stars, rankings, or hype. It’s about helping each athlete find the right opportunity and giving families the knowledge to navigate the journey with confidence.

The founders

Rob & Lynne Alfano

Rob Alfano, co-founder of More Than Stars Recruiting

Rob Alfano

Co-founder · Digital marketer · Former U.S. Army Paratrooper

Rob Alfano is the co-founder of More Than Stars Recruiting, created after his family experienced the college football recruiting process firsthand with their son, Justin. Navigating recruiting as a parent gave Rob a close-up look at how difficult it can be to understand coach interest, evaluate opportunities, manage communication, and determine what an athlete should be doing to put himself in the best position to play at the next level.

Rob brings an analytical, research-driven approach to recruiting, shaped by more than two decades of experience in digital marketing and business strategy. His background includes work with Fortune 50 companies, startups, and small businesses, as well as time with Facebook's Business Advertising education group. A former U.S. Army Paratrooper and longtime football enthusiast, Rob now applies that same focus on strategy, preparation, and decision-making to helping families better understand and navigate the recruiting process.

Lynne Alfano, co-founder of More Than Stars Recruiting

Lynne Alfano

Co-founder · Former teacher & coach

Lynne Alfano is the co-founder of More Than Stars Recruiting and a former high school teacher with more than two decades of coaching experience. As a parent navigating the college football recruiting process with her son, Justin, Lynne saw firsthand how overwhelming recruiting can feel for families, especially when an athlete is not one of the highly ranked recruits receiving constant attention.

Her background as an educator and coach shapes much of the More Than Stars approach. Lynne has a natural ability to take complicated information, make it easier to understand, and help people determine what to do next. Through More Than Stars, she is focused on giving recruiting families the education, practical resources, and support she wishes her own family had earlier in the process, so parents and athletes can ask better questions, recognize meaningful opportunities, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Common questions

Why does More Than Stars Recruiting exist?

More Than Stars Recruiting was created because football recruiting families often receive plenty of individual tips but very little structure. The goal is to help athletes and parents understand how the pieces fit together, make more informed decisions, communicate appropriately, and keep the player actively involved in his own recruiting process.

What does “More Than Stars” mean?

The name More Than Stars reflects the idea that recruiting cannot be reduced to rankings or labels. Talent matters, but so do fit, exposure, communication, relationships, organization, timing, academics, and the athlete’s ability to follow through throughout the process.
